  • If I Was Gautam Gambhir, I Would Take Rishabh Pant Aside…”: R Ashwin’s Stunning ‘Request

India should focus on extending their batting time and Rishabh pant must convert his hundreds into double centuries against an “average” England attack in the ongoing Test series, said senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in his detailed post-mortem of the team’s five-wicket loss in the lung-opener at Leeds. Despite five centuries from their batters across both innings, India allowed England to chase their second highest target of 371 to concede a 0-1 lead in the five-match series. “One thing that the Indian team’s batting can focus on is in every innings, can you extend your batting with time — not by runs. Increase the amount of time England is fielding and increase the amount of time you keep them on the field,”Ashwin said on his YouTube channel ‘Ash Ki Baat’.I will say one thing — don’t panic and change drastically. India could and might level the series in the next Test. But if we don’t understand the tactics England are using, this series could very well go away from us quickly.”

Ashwin stressed that the game slipped out of India’s hands the moment they were bowled out early on the fourth day.

“When you didn’t extend your batting into Day 5, the game was over. This England team has openly advertised that they will go for the target whatever may be the target. So as a batting lineup, we’ve to keep in mind that we have to give them less time but give a bigger target,” he explained.

“If you want to set a target, you will have to keep a minimum of 400–450. I would say 450 with as little time as possible is the best way to win a Test match in England at this point of time. If the wicket is such.”

Compare Pant with Kohli not Dhoni

Lauding the twin centuries by Pant, Ashwin said comparing him to MS Dhoni was not appropriate, as the latter never batted at the reasonably high No. 5 position.

  • Gautam Gambhir Faces Heat Over Revealing Big Team ‘Secret’ After 1st Test Defeat

However, former India opener Aakash Chopra has questioned Gambhir for the lack of secrecy surrounding Bumrah’s workload. Chopra feels that Gambhir and management could have kept England guessing about Bumrah’s availability.

“Bumrah said he will play three matches only, and I am thinking whether it was required to publicise it. Why was it not kept a secret? We don’t announce our team as well. So why was it necessary to reiterate it repeatedly before the start of the tour that he would play three matches only? Let them guess. You play whichever Tests you wish,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“You have played one, and you know you can play only two of the remaining four matches, which is not a good thing. If you play the second as well, you will play one of three. So, suddenly, the opposition gets into a great frame of mind that Bumrah, your biggest strength, is also not there. You can prepare pitches accordingly,” he added.

Chopra highlighted the importance of producing new crop of fast bowlers as uncertainty looms large over Bumrah and co.

“The next generation of Indian fast bowlers will have to be prepared. It’s a serious issue. There were two important pillars of India’s good performance away from home. One was batters starting to score runs, but it doesn’t work out with that, as you need to pick up 20 wickets. So Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj were outstanding with Jasprit Bumrah,” said Chopra.

“I also remember Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar‘s Lord’s Test. When there are doubts about Bumrah’s availability, who will take the responsibility going forward, because Mohammad Shami, I think that story is not over, but it is close to an ending. Mohammed Siraj is good, but he hasn’t reached the rank of Bumrah or Shami,” he pointed out.

  • Rohit Sharma Spotted Enjoying Vacation In Italy With Wife Ritika Sajdeh Amid India vs England Series

Rohit is next set to play for India in August, when India visit Bangladesh for three ODIs. The first ODI is scheduled to take place on August 17.

Meanwhile, Rohit’s successor as India’s new Test captain, Shubman Gill, is under the spotlight after his leadership in the series opener against England. Gill came under criticism from former England skipper Nasser Hussain, who said Gill “didn’t quite have the on-field aura” of his predecessors, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“I saw someone finding his way,” Hussain said on Sky Sports. “He (Gill) didn’t quite have that on-field aura of Rohit and Kohli. I thought he followed the ball a lot and was reactive rather than proactive. When Rohit and Kohli captained, you looked down and immediately knew who was in charge. In this game, I saw two or three captains – captaincy by committee.”

Gill’s first Test as skipper ended in disappointment as India slumped to a five-wicket defeat at Headingley despite a dominant start and five individual centuries across both innings. England, fueled by Ben Duckett‘s electrifying 149 and composed efforts from Joe Root (53 not out) and debutant Jamie Smith (44 not out), chased down 371 in the fourth innings – their second-highest successful run chase in Test history, and the highest ever against India.

While Hussain admitted that Gill’s captaincy lacked assertiveness, he also acknowledged that the 24-year-old wasn’t solely to blame. “India lost the match because of two things Gill couldn’t control – dropped catches and batting collapses,” he said, pointing to the team’s fielding struggles and repeated middle-order meltdowns.

In a game where India had England at 276/5 in the first innings and later at 333/4 in the second, their inability to close out dominant positions proved fatal. The visitors lost seven wickets for 41 runs in the first innings and six for 31 in the second – collapses that turned the tide despite hundreds from Shubman Gill, KL RahulYashasvi JaiswalRishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill himself in his first innings as captain.

  • Surgeon Reveals Rishabh Pant’s First Question After Near-Fatal Car Crash In 2022: “Am I Ever…”

He was pulled out of the mangled mass, and Pardiwala said, “Rishabh Pant was extremely lucky to be alive – extremely lucky.” “When he first came in, he had a dislocated right knee. He also had an injury to his right ankle, lots of other minor injuries all over. He had a lot of skin loss, so his entire skin from the nape of the neck down to his knees was completely scraped off in the process of that accident,” Pardiwala told The Telegraph, recalling the brutal impact of the crash on Pant’s body.

“Then getting out of the car – that broken glass scraped off a lot of the skin and the flesh from his back,” he added.

The fighter in Pant endured 635 days of recovery, rehabilitation, multiple surgeries and extensive physiotherapy to make a triumphant return to professional cricket, a fight-back which has become one of the most heartwarming stories in sports.

“To be in an accident like this, where the car actually overturns and blows up, the risk of death is extremely high,” said Pardiwala, days after seeing his patient in full flow, smashing the ball effortlessly and playing audacious strokes on way to scoring back-to-back centuries in the opening Test against England at Headingley.

Pardiwala said that Pant was extremely lucky to not lose blood supply in his right leg given the severity of the injuries, as it could have led to serious complications including amputation.

“When your knee dislocates, and all the ligaments break, there’s a high possibility of the nerve or the main blood vessel also being injured. If the blood vessel gets injured, you typically have about four to six hours to restore the blood supply.

“Otherwise, there’s a risk of losing your limb. The fact that his blood vessel wasn’t injured despite having a severe high-velocity knee dislocation was extremely lucky,” said Pardiwala.

Pardiwala recalled the day Pant was brought into his hospital in Mumbai, his first question was, “Am I ever going to be able to play again?” His mother, though, was more practical, asking the surgeon: “Is he ever going to be able to walk again?” Pardiwala said the injuries were so bad that Pant needed a complete reconstruction of his knee.

  • Emma Raducanu Asked If She Is Dating Carlos Alcaraz In Press Conference.

“It was fun yesterday. We were both on court with Evian. We were just getting some volley practicing ahead of New York.

“I’m really happy obviously to be playing with him. Yeah, we had a good time yesterday.”

In contrast to Alcaraz’s meteoric rise since making his major breakthrough at the US Open three years ago, Raducanu has struggled to shine under the spotlight since becoming a household name.

The 22-year-old has never progressed beyond the fourth round of the Grand Slam since winning in New York and has been battling a back injury heading into Wimbledon.

“Truthfully I don’t expect much from myself this year. I know I’ve just been dealing with certain things. I just want to go out there and embrace the moment,” added Raducanu, who faces fellow Briton Mimi Xu in the first round.

“I know there’s not many opportunities to be playing at Wimbledon. You get it once a year and for a finite amount of time.

“I’m just looking forward to going out there and feeling the surroundings and the atmosphere.”

  • Neurologist To NDTV On Shefali Jariwala Cause Of Death: “Glutathione May Result In Cardiac Issues, Epilepsy Can Lead To Sudden Death”

    New Delhi:

Following the news of actor-model Shefali Jariwala’s untimely death, an old interview of her’s has resurfaced in which she spoke about her long battle with epilepsy and how it affected her career.

According to sources, Shefali Jariwala had been undergoing special treatment for the past five to six years to maintain a youthful appearance. The medicines used in the process mainly included Vitamin C and Glutathione.

Dr Rahul Chawla, Consultant Neurologist, Institute of Brain and Spine has now shared his take and advice on the relationship between epilepsy and cardiac arrest and the use of Glutathione with its adverse effects.

He told NDTV, “Regarding IV Glutathione and IV detoxifying drips, they are not guideline recommended. They have no high-quality evidence showing any effect. They do have their harmful adverse effects including cardiac conduction abnormalities, arrhythmia, and hypotension. There have been multiple case reports where patients have died after taking those IV detoxifying drips and probably sudden collapse or sudden hypotension was the reason behind those deaths. However, we cannot correlate any sudden cardiac death of a person with a history of having glutathione or detox drips.”

“One thing to be remembered is that any supplement that seems too good to be true and does not have RCT or Meta-analysis level of evidence, is not recommended by guidelines and has potential adverse effects, should not be used,” concluded the Consultant Neurologist.

Glutathione is a drug often used for skin fairness and detoxification.

Doctors have stated that these medications do not have a direct impact on the heart, and are typically used for cosmetic enhancement only.

As of now, the actual cause of death will be known only after the forensic and post-mortem reports are out.

Shefali Jariwala had earlier opened up on her history with epilepsy which she had been suffering from since the age of 15. Medical professionals have said that SUDEP or Sudden Unexplained Death in a condition like Epilepsy is possible. It is rare, however can happen when it leads to fatal heart complications.
